Watercolor sketchbook of D.O. Teeple, perhaps from Great Britain, documenting his travels across Canada, the Western United
States and the Great Plains during a sporting trip the summer and autumn of 1874. Canada scenes and views include rivers,
falls, boats, timber yards and other waterway subjects, chiefly in Québec; and moose. Identified Canada locations include
St. Lawrence River, Montréal, Québec City, and Ottawa. California views include grizzly bears and bear hunting, deer hunting,
Mexican vaqueros, wild horses, travel via horse in the mountains, and camping. Identified California locations include the
Sierra Nevada and Fort Tejón. Colorado views include Rocky Mountains, bighorn sheep, elk, and antelope hunting. Plains and
prairie views include buffalo herds and buffalo hunting, and camping. Several small drawings of various wild animals are scattered
throughout the album. Also includes a portrait of an unidentified Native American woman ("wife of a noble red man"), and a
view of New York Harbor.
